Since establishing O’Brien Criminal and Civil Solicitors, Peter's practice is largely devoted to the accountability of the state and other institutions in complex criminal, civil and defamation proceedings. He has appeared in courts at all levels, often acting for clients who have been granted legal aid and on a pro bono basis.
Peter has represented clients in all major Royal Commissions in the past decade, including multiple detainees in the Northern Territory Royal Commission, and was the instructing solicitor in the false imprisonment case of SU v Commonwealth of Australia, BS v Commonwealth of Australia, which created new law in Australia.
He is also the co-author, with Corrie Goodhand, of Intentional Tort Litigation in Australia, published by The Federation Press.
